PupMarks FAQ: walks, privacy, and your pup.
The short version of walks, PupMarks, privacy, alerts, following, business tools, and account controls, using the labels you will see in the app.
Getting started
Where are Settings?
Open Profile. Under Settings, choose Privacy & location or Notifications. Account deletion, sign out, and other ownership controls are lower on the same Profile screen under Account controls.
What is a PupMark?
A PupMark is a moment attached to a place: a pee, poop, sniff, play spot, friend, visit, photo, or memory. You can stamp one during a walk or on its own, add a note or photo, and choose its visibility and location precision.
What does the Walk button save?
A completed walk saves its duration, distance, route, participating pups, and any PupMarks made during it. Your exact route path remains private; the app can show a shareable recap without publishing the private route to everyone.
Can a dog walker record a walk for my pup?
Yes. You can delegate selected pups to a trusted walker for a defined time window. The walker accepts the request, records the assigned walk, and the completed walk produces a recap for you. See PupMarks for dog walkers.
Privacy & location
What do the three location choices mean?
- Exact for all: anyone allowed to see the PupMark sees its exact pin.
- Exact for me, approximate for others: you retain the exact pin; shared viewers see a nearby area.
- Approximate for all: everyone, including you, sees a nearby area.
What does Default visibility do?
It sets the starting audience for new PupMarks and new pup profiles. During an owner-recorded walk, it also seeds the starting audience for PupMarks you stamp on that walk. Exact routes stay private. Delegated walks start private, although the owner can later share a route-free summary. A new account initially uses Pup pals with Exact all, but you can change either default or override it on an individual PupMark or pup profile.
- Private: starts owner-only.
- Followers / Pup pals: starts shared with approved followers.
- Public / Nearby: starts visible to signed-in PupMarks users, using your location-precision choice.
What does Follow requests do?
When it is on, eligible new human and pup follow requests are auto-approved. When it is off, you approve each request from the Activity Feed.
What do “Find me by…” controls do?
Name, email, and nickname decide which values can match search and help eligible pups appear in Discover. Turning all of them off removes your pups from Discover, but existing followers and people with a direct link can still open content its visibility allows.
